Psychotherapy in Washington State (Telehealth)

Psychotherapy (traditional talk therapy) is a space to slow down, listen inward, and make contact with the parts of you that may have felt unheard, unseen, or silenced. I do not have a one-size-fits-all approach - our work is collaborative and led by your needs, your pace, and what feels most meaningful to you in the moment.

What to Expect

First: Start Slow

I don’t start with a list of questions for you to answer or encourage you to “trauma dump” your life story. I like to take the first few sessions to learn about what brings you to therapy, your current symptoms, and a little bit about your current life circumstances (your work, living situation, relationships with family and friends). I may ask for a brief overview of your childhood and trauma history, but you can expect a slow starting pace. This may be different than what you are used to, especially if you have experience in inpatient or outpatient settings.

Next: Stability

If you are experiencing debilitating trauma symptoms, we will work on those first. This initial stage of therapy involves practical skill building, such as mindfulness and somatic exercises, grounding, visualization, journaling, social skills, and more. This phase will also include psychoeducation, helping you to understand what you’ve been through and give you language for your experience. Not only will this strengthen your internal resources, but it will also allow for an increased ability to stay present, both with your feelings and in your body.

Then: Exploration

When you are ready, we can begin to explore your inner landscape. I will ask questions about your day-to-day experiences, your internal emotional life, and your thoughts. We will also dive deeper into your symptoms and what they are communicating to you. As trust develops between us, the hope is that you will feel increasingly comfortable to share details of your past that feel relevant to your current situation. Over time, at a pace set by you, we can begin to identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and I can offer interventions that may be helpful given your symptoms, your personality, and your goals.
